FOURTH OF JULY PARADE & CELEBRATION

Bring the family to The Randolph Area Chamber of Commerce 4th of July parade (always on the 4th!) - one of the best Independence Day parades in Vermont! Businesses, civic and youth groups, farmers, individuals and families make the Randolph parade a fun time for all. Watch the creatively crafted floats, fire engines, bands, entertainers, antique cars and tractors, horses, oxen, and more! And after the parade, head for the post-parade celebration for a chicken BBQ, cotton candy and other food choices, as well as games, crafts, entertainment and the debut of the Art Bus.

Come hear the Panhandlers Steel Drum Band, the South Royalton Town Band, and the whimsical RUHS Junk Band. Our thanks to all who make this day so special and fun! We extend special thanks to the Town of Randolph's sponsorship and to all our dedicated volunteers.

This publication also serves as the must-have schedule for the holiday week as well as an update on Community and Chamber activities. Members and friends are invited to submit ad copy in this effort to support Heart of Vermont businesses.

A business, organization, or individual can also choose to be a sponsor on four different levels. Click on the pdf below to see yet another way to contribute to the festivities.

ANNUAL DINNER

The Randolph Area Chamber of Commerce holds its Annual Meeting and Dinner in February. This popular event is held at Vermont Technical College, with 2008's dinner at the beautiful Shape Center. In addition to enjoying cocktails and a scrumptious dinner, Chamber members and friends also look forward to hearing from a guest speaker, welcoming new Chamber Board members, thanking the retiring members and congratulating the Business Executive of the Year.

Business Executives of the Year are chosen each year for their dedication to and leadership in the community and in their businesses or professions, for their Chamber support, their community service, their work with other groups, as well as for their support and enrichment of the community.

Recent past recipients of this award have been Larry Richburg of Richburg Builders (2008 recipient), Ty Handy of Vermont Technical College, Rebecca McMeekin of the Chandler Center for the Arts, Joe Woodin of Gifford Medical Center, Ted Elzey of Century 21 The Mill Stone Agency, Ron Greenwood of L.W. Greenwood & Sons, Edna Burnett of Randolph National Bank, Ken Jacobs of Ken's Barber Shop, Robert Wright of Vermont Castings, Dwight & Mary Porter of Porter Music Box Co., John & Gail Osha of My-Our Farm, Dick Drysdale of The Herald, David Palmer of Stagecoach Transportation, Steven Dimick of Randolph National Bank, Bill Bauman of DuBois & King and Bill Markle of Braintree Associates, among others since 1984.

LEGISLATIVE BREAKFASTS

The Chamber and Two Rivers Ottauquechee Regional Commission sponsor four legislative breakfasts, one in January, February, March and April of each year. These 7:30 AM get-togethers give members and guests an opportunity to meet with State Commissioners, State Representatives, Senators, the Lt Governor and the Governor in order to make comments and learn more about happenings at the State level. Legislative breakfast meetings are a perfect venue for networking, too.

MEETINGS, MIXERS & MILESTONES

The Chamber holds Board of Directors Meetings on the second Friday of each month. The Executive Committee meets on the first Friday of the month. The Membership and Economic Development committees meet monthly and as needed. The Scholarship and Event committees usually begin weekly meetings about two months before each event. The Economic Development Committee meetings vary in frequency and members as well as non-members are welcome to participate. Contact the Chamber if you would like to be included in these meetings or serve on a committee.

In support of our member businesses, the Chamber holds seminars, ribbon-cuttings, after-hours mixers and milestone celebrations periodically. These are publicized in the local papers, the Web, the E-news, and e-mailings.

SCHOLARSHIP BOWLING TOURNAMENT

The Scholarship Bowling Tournament raises money for scholarships for Randolph Technical Career Center graduates. The fourth annual tournament will be in early November in 2009. The proceeds from the 2008 family event will allow the Chamber to award $1250 in scholarship to two deserving Tech Center students graduating in June of 2009, and we look forward to continuing the tradition. "Bowligan" mulligans were introduced in 2008 and the Tournament Committee plans to make them a part of the strategy to win at the 2009 Tournament, too.

Held at Randolph's Valley Bowl, teams of five join in the fun by bowling three strings at either 11:00, 2:00 or 5:00. Door prizes are awarded throughout each time slot. Raffle prizes are awarded at the end of the day (winners not present will be notified). The 2008 raffle prizes included a three month family SHAPE membership at Vermont Technical College's new fitness center, a pair of 2008 Red Sox Tickets from Milne Travel, lift tickets from Mad River Glen, and a gift certificate to RTCC Automotive Center. New England Precision, the winning team, has their picture and name on a plaque at Valley Bowl.

Businesses and individuals can support this event with a direct donation to the Scholarship Fund, by donating a prize, by hosting a team, or by sponsoring a lane sign.

HOLIDAY SHOPPING CARD PROMOTION

Each Holiday Season, the Randolph Area Chamber of Commerce invites Heart of Vermont businesses to be part of the Annual Holiday Shopping Card Promotion. This initiative invites holiday shoppers to shop locally at participating businesses from the Friday after Thanksgiving through the Christmas holiday and enter weekly prize drawings with each $100 spent. The weekly prizes of a $25 gift certificate are donated by participating merchants, with the event being sponsored by area businesses. Grand prizes are also awarded. In 2008 shoppers had a chance to win one of 35 prizes and had the new incentive to accumulate "double stamps" on the first and last days of the promotion.

In 2008, over 1300 shopping cards were entered in drawings, representing over $110,000 in local sales. Our grand prizes included a Storm Station from Central Supplies, Nathan Webb pottery from WRCC, and theme gift baskets from RACDC and local merchants.
